evaluation of coupled- shear walls subjected to near-field earthquakes
Authors
abstract
coupled -shear walls are one of lateral load resisting systems in high and medium rise reinforced concrete buildings. the lateral structural response is exactly dependents on the shear walls behavior; therefore these elements must response well whenundergodifferent load conditions. the structures located in near-source region behave differently compared to those in near-source sites when subjected to earthquake. therefore, it is very important to study the behavior of these walls under near-field seismic loads. to do this, after validation of the finite element model with experimental sample; coupled-shear walls in 10 and 20 story buildings with ratio (l=span length and h =beam height) of , , and were modeled in abaqus computer software. the nonlinear time history analysis were carried out using two coupled near and far fault records and then the performance of walls were studied under near-field earthquake. .

response of coupled-precast shear walls subjected to cyclic loads
large panel precast structures are analyzed based on the connection rigidity. however, the connections undergo nonlinear and inelastic response, when subjected to seismic loads. thus, to study the actual behavior of structure, the connection nonlinearity should be implemented in the joints. in this paper, three conventional connection types are modeled based on the envelope of their cyclic resp...
full textEvaluation of 2D concentrically braced frames with cylindrical dampers subjected to near-field earthquake ground motions
Near field earthquakes have imposed major damage to buildings in the past years. In some cases, the intensity of such damage is too considerable to be disregarded. The most effective way to improve seismic performance of buildings is applying a seismic control technique. The cylindrical friction damper is one of these methods, which has become popular for its desirable performance in the energy...
full textResponse Modification Factor of Coupled Steel Shear Walls
The present research is concerned with the determination of ductility, over-strength and response modification factors of coupled steel shear wall frames. Three structural models with various numbers of stories, bay width and coupling beam height were analyzed using static pushover and incremental nonlinear dynamic analyses. The ductility, over-strength and response modification factors for the...
full textRe-centering Variable Friction Device for Vibration Control of Structures subjected to Near-Field Earthquakes
This paper proposes a re-centering variable friction device (RVFD) for control of civil structures subjected to near-field earthquakes. The proposed hybrid device has two subcomponents. The first subcomponent of this hybrid device consists of shape memory alloy (SMA) wires that exhibit a unique hysteretic behavior and full recovery following post-transformation deformations. The second subcompo...
full textSeismic Behavior of Jacket Offshore Platform Subjected to Near and Far Field Ground Motions
Offshore structures such as jacket platforms have to inevitably be designed against sever environmental actions. In seismically active areas these structures also become susceptible to earthquake excitations. Strong ground motions recorded in recent earthquakes, including the 1995 Kobe, Japan, 1999 Chi-chi, Taiwan and 1999 Kocaeli, Turkey earthquakes, revealed that the dynamic motions in nea...
full textShear and Flexural Stiffnesses of Reinforced Concrete Shear Walls Subjected to Cyclic Loading
Seismic analyses of concrete structures under maximum-considered earthquakes require the use of reduced stiffness accounting for cracks and degraded materials. Structural walls, different to other flexural dominated components, are sensitive to both shear and flexural stiffness degradations. Adoption of the gross shear stiffness for walls in seismic analysis prevails particularly for the design...
